This ship is too big and costly to operate, the crew keeps getting costlier and bigger while the food is going to be rationed heavily in the coming months. In my org (my L8 in retail has ~70+ under him mix of SDE, SDM, PM, TPM, etc.), we've seen bad prioritization which led to too many projects + overworked engineers then there was an exodus in fall n spring, now there ain't much attrition. Whatever folks have left in the past ~2 months have only transferred internally (mostly to AWS). We are going through our OP1 intakes and our L8s have gotten a lot stricter with prioritizing+ cutting down roles that have been open for far too long. We've moved some current work to away teams as well. Overall no sign of layoffs but the tightening can be seen and felt. I have friends in Alexa, they aren't seeing much attrition at lower levels in the past month but the senior managers n directors have been leaving. Idk the #s but it sounded like folks are concerned in Alexa too. AWS friends of mine sounded too cocky as if they have too much work and less people + lots of revenue/backlog will protect them if layoffs were to come. I am always cautiously optimistic. Coming from a non-tech firm to FAANG, I can tell you that orgs that are highly profitable will also shed weight during such a situations. You will see decisions that are counterintuitive being made (ex: blanket x% cuts across orgs, standard rules applied to all orgs without accounting for nuances, etc.) Remember cloud revenues will grow (albeit at a slower pace) but companies may deprioritize/delay features/capacity/integration/migrations when cash is tight unless the requirement is business critical. When you combine bloat + less attrition than expected + tightening of resources+ reprioritizing ongoing/new work + URA may increase rumors. If I had a safe job that I can bear with till the dust settles, I wouldn't risk it for a <30% jump in pay. Amazon stock has room to fall further given how much uncertainty with macro conditions is prevailing. TC: 290 (April PCS)
Unfortunately, I am getting a 200% hike. I gotta jump ship and see.

Good advice, OP. Stability trumps TC for the next few years.
It might be org dependent, my team is hiring, just added few more positions. When going gets tough, the stock price will go down too, as is happening now. Remember most of us are still capped at measly 160k. Then Amazon will just not give any more stock to compensate for the drop. Easy peasy, automatic cut, Amazon lowers their cost, further some will leave due to low TC. Case in point, TC 500 this year, drops to 330 in 1.5 years at today's stock price. Problem solved without any nastiness.
I got a pretty decent 70K base bump so will stick around even though stock is in bad shape.
Good for you floppy. Thanks for the data!
Is Amazon Go a good org? WlB? Hire to fire? Pip the pipper?
Amazon go is a large org Hard to generalize
All orgs PIP at Amazon—even in AWS. It’s based on the size of your team. If you’re on a small team, you don’t have to worry. Once you get on a big team—you can get PIP’d even if you do a good job. Be. Careful.
Any idea y senior alexians r quitting?
What do you guys suggest, should I leave my stable job at JPMC (I have an external offer so they may match my base TC) and go for Masters in USA this Fall? How will be the market in upcoming years for internships and full time offers ?
Go for masters
Which university?
I think Amazon is a path way for many to reach tier 1ish companies, so suffer for an year and get the fruits later
I am entering to take your share of pie. Why should Amazonians have all the fun?

If only Indian opposition parties had accurate name...
My TC was 5k USD with 3 yoe. I’m based in India. Joined amazon as sde1, TC- 30k USD. Worked for 1.5 years. Though I absolutely loved my team. My manager is one of the best person I have met so far in my career. Now at Salesforce. Tc is 80k USD. It’s a lot of money. I didn’t even ever think I’ll earn this much money. Amazon opened so many doors for me that I wouldn’t even thought were possible. Google, meta recruiters inmail me like almost every week. Was amazon worth? Yes definitely for me. So it depends where one is coming from. What he/she is looking for.
Did you see my last para?
Well done salesforce . I hv messaged you ☺️
