I see here on blind that many people switch jobs regularly (every 3-4 years, sometimes even less), to have that big TC. But are there people on h1b who do similar jumps? If yes, don’t you worry about immigration things like perm filing and stuff? And is it safe to join smaller companies like #plaid #stripe #instacart #doordash #databricks #uber #lyft etc? #Apple #Microsoft #Google #Amazon
I worry nothing. Rest and Vest. Flip. Repeat. All things you mentioned are non-issues. Stop being paranoid.
So u hv such career graph on h1b ?
Yeah. 10+ years strong.
Every 2-3 years is normal. Perm takes about an year and I-140 couple of weeks if filed in premium.
Why would you need perm and i140 if you already got it once?
changed jobs every 2-3 years…but got dinged by Facebook due to the perm approval issues because of DOJ lawsuit. Felt like I should have stayed with previous employer. Now my PD is current but I have no other way but wait until DOJ lawsuit is resolved and perm is approved 😞
Oh, that’s 1 off case, who would hv thought this would happen with a company like FB , but all the best 👍🏻
What was your perm approval issue and what is this doj lawsuit?
People lost amazing opportunities and lot of money waiting for green card. I would change after 3-4 years so that you still move up the ladder and employers don’t take advantage of your situation. Weigh the risk. If you’re moving to a startup have a back up option just in case it goes bad.
Exactly, i see many talented people, just stuck cuz of immigration things. Thanks for ur input.
I agree. There are risks involved in changing employers but you don’t want to lose your prime time in your career waiting for GC. I changed 5 employers over last 10 years
Changed 5 companies in last 16 years on H1B. There are risks. worth taking it.
every 3-4 years is not frequent at all, is it?
