New to the area. Seems daunting to choose one without much data.
Zocdoc
Referral?
Thanks Doodle2 for this post. Hey experienced Blinders- I have Kaiser. Is this approach OK: Check out doctors profiles on kp.org, read through their reviews on zocdoc or yelp, see who’s highest rated and just book an appointment? (Yelp reviews are mostly negative rants though) Are there any specific docs you’d suggest/refer?
Kaiser team in Capitol Hill will deliver also in the Swedish hospital
If you know you want to have a kid - i.e. this is why obgyn is important to you. I agree with above poster, choose the best hospital in your area and ensure that it is in-network for your insurance. I also called and asked my hospital about their policy for docs at the hospital and their insurance. I.e anesthesiologist have a high rate of not being in network and then you being stuck with a high out of network bill. An epidural is charged by the anesthesiologist during birth, look up the vox series. Then look at the physicians associated with that hospital and their ratings. Finally join a local fb group and do a search of previous posts for your chosen docs name and see what people have to say.
When I'm new to an area and need to choose a doctor, I make a spreadsheet of 20 doctors in the area, lookup reviews on health grades, Yelp and Google and based on the data narrow it down to 3-4 candidates and go with whoever is accepting new patients.
Fortunately our PCP provided great reco for both Gynac and Pediatrician. Ask your PCP and then search on Yelp for reviews
Most probably a different doctor ( whoever is on call ) will deliver the baby so pick a good hospital
Kaiser Redwood City has midwives. They have a monthly event to meet the midwives.
I wanted a woman doctor, covered by my insurance, who had experience with high risk pregnancies and would deliver at a hospital with a grade A NICU. I also wanted a traditional birth and cesarean as a last resort.
I also asked for recommendations from other moms locally through some Facebook groups.
Maybe write up a birth plan (wish list) and see who you can find who fits it.
What’s your insurance?
