A friend is looking to move to San Bruno(down the street from Youtube HQ, 15mins from BART station) and wants to know what the area is like? Is it safe? Are car break ins or burglaries common?
South of el Camino is shoddy. I have lived happily in San Bruno for the last 4 yrs. nothing beats living at 5 min walk from work.
not working beats living 5 minutes away from work
I lived there for one year. We are a couple - one commutes to city and other commutes to South Bay. Perfect option for this kind of situation. We lived in gated community so very safe. Literally nothing else except mall (which is pretty nice).
I always hated the weather at San Bruno, even more than SF. Mostly cloudy and windy. Not much restaurants either.

dangerous chance of boredom. probability of social life: 0%. I wish him the best.
You can drive to anywhere in the bay. What matters is 5 days of daily work life convenience than 2 days of social entertainment. PS I dont live in San Bruno. Just never understood the reasoning behind having to live in the city for social life purpose.
It makes a huge difference when you can make spontaneous plans on the weekend and meet your friends in the city. Also, living in the city allows for plans during the week without worrying about traffic, commute, etc.
