I started last month, I’ve been doing everything above and beyond; finishing tasks ahead of time, helping everyone etc. I am an APM. I’ll be asked to relocate to HQ (Canada to USA) in 6 months or so… so the salary will be changed, but by then I know I’ll have done a lot of good work, tips of negotiating an ever better salary upgrade? TC 110k cad Will look to get at least 130k usd
I said, "I need a 250k base or I'll walk" They came back with 230k, I said I would sleep on it. Then the next morning I called the recruiter and said that I would be more comfortable if they could do that last push to 250. Had to get CEO approval but whatever, I got it.
Sus out your situation with your manager. Are you really valuable to him? Are you a star player? Will they hurt if they lost you? All of this is leverage if the answer is yes to each question. For me I straight up told my manager “I think I’m getting paid on the Lower range of the pay band for my level. Can you help me out with my salary?” right before the manager annual refresh season/discussions. It was easy to be this indirect and for him to get the point since I do amazing work, in comparison to other senior folks on my team who out earn me. He ended up giving me a 11% pay bump at EOY salary refresh.
This is pretty much it. You have to be a performer and be able to have a sane conversation with manager. If not, you’ll have to switch jobs.
Having an external offer, or just straight up leaving. You have to negotiate and negotiate hard. Nobody will just hand you more money unfortunately.
