Hello salesforce/slack people that worked on the iOS app, can you tell how long it takes for the iOS code to build? Both the first time after a fresh beanc(clean build) and next builds. Please, help me I was arguing with an iOS developer that chat apps tend to become really bulky in general and the huge build time is unavoidable. They were saying that MS teams takes about 30-40 minutes first build and about 10 minutes from the second time, and they said this is because Microsoft doesn’t care about developer time. But IMO chat apps can become bulky and this huge build time is unavoidable. ##tech #ios #it #swe #software #sde #slack #salesforce
Doesn't build time depends on the machine power (M2 Pro chip might have far faster builds than Intel i7 chip)
Yep true. But Microsoft teams apparently doesn’t use M2 hahah. There is some weird reason why the team doesn’t get newer laptops
I work on Chime mobile and it takes about 5 minutes for a clean build and 1-2 min after that.
Slack iOS build switched to bazel about a year ago. Clean build times are in the minutes and rebuilds are in the seconds.
lol
Slack is big, but it’s apps that have very locale-specific behaviors that tend to bloat the most. Think Uber/Lyft especially.
Does 30minutes include building cpp (video calling)? If yes, than it’s totally fine, WebRTC is your benchmark ;)

Idk about that but slack web/desktop feels really lightweight and slack Android/iOS really feels like I'm dragging a metal bar up the lane.
Ohhhh. Really?
I believe I used it more on desktop, but I always liked slack better
