Got PIP'ed in my end-of-year review because the feedback wasn't convincing as per my manager's expectations. I totally disagree with the decision and believe this was solely done to satisfy the company's new direction/vision. I am still not able to understand the mystery puzzle in the feedback from my stakeholders, I have had a few 1x1 conversations with them and they told me that they were satisfied with my work and/or trending in the right direction. I genuinely didn't expect to be PIP'ed as I have delivered all my Product quarterly commitments. I am still waiting to read the fine print on PIP (severance, etc.) but I am not sure if I should just take the severance and leave rather than prove myself every day for the next 30 days? P.S. - I feel extremely satisfied with my work and the efforts that I have put in, there is always going to be learning/adapting in our industry but not enough to be PIP'ed. #pip #layoff #tech
Take severance and prep interviews
This. If you got pip it means they don’t want you. Doubt that you’d be able to change their view on a short time frame. It’d be a waste of time and energy. Take the severance.
Check if this PIP doesn't work, do you get a second PIP. If you get a second one, wait for it but start looking for jobs. If this is it, take the severance and look for another job. Basically look for another job.
Take the money and put extra efforts in interview rather than in development plan. Ask for the severance and negotiate for more
I can’t speak to your company, but a lot of things factor into implicit stack ranking, which are beyond your direct manager’s control. Maybe it was performance-related. It could just as easily be a forced reduction in budget, and you drew the short straw. I would weigh the merits of the feedback and your relationship with your supervisor’s manager. Unless there is something extenuating, I would move on.
Not worth the stress to take PIP at some 2nd rate startup. Take the severance and run.
PIP is a death sentence. Take severance and run. It is hr policy to pip before fire for lawsuit avoidance
Depends on the company really
Thats probably true!
“Trending in the right direction” means you were below expectations and need a little more from you to be middle of the road Don’t worry about it, I’ve been in that position before and still made Principal PM (product) - just prepare your resume, and start applying for new roles elsewhere asap - and make a move Whether the company is changing direction or not, doesn’t matter. Fk them and you do you. When you get an offer, sign that offer, and set a new start date, don’t give your current employer any notice. Just take PTO during your new start date, then notify HR that you’re resigning effective with 3 business days of notice. Turn your sht back in and drop the ball on everything you’re working on
Don't we have to serve the notice period once resigned?
Ugh I was in a similar situation, it sucks, but the best thing to do is to prepare for the worst
Well either way, good luck to you! The pip sucks but you have a good option with severance. Keep your head up, you will make it through this stronger and better then before. Cheers
Nope. Take a Viagra.
