How does your company do performance reviews/merit increases? Stack rank? Fixed raises?
it's now basically fixed, no matter how hard you work or what you accomplish you get average. Promos are mostly time based about every 2 years. There are a couple people who get very little or no bonus, and very few who get amazing bonus. Overall the system promotes laziness.

you receive a calibration score based on a performance review every semester and these dictate end-of-year bonus, merit increases and stock refreshes.
Your manager determines the calibration score? Does that score get normalized somehow across other people? How do promotions factor in?
We don't call it stack ranking any more and we don't have forced distributions at the M1 or M2 level. But, when you have a fixed bonus / stock pool, it's either stack ranking or peanut butter.
We do a variation of stack ranking... Only high performing individuals get significant stock increases over target comp. Mostly because our stock has been increasing every year. The sure way to get more money is to get promoted, but it's hard to do when our company is so flat.
Forced % distribution into lower ranks? Who controls promotions? Manager? Peers?
Your manager holds most of the power, but your review is influenced by all of your peer feedback.

So how do you determine things like promotion, bonus, raise, and RSU?
Monetary gains happen twice a year and are "mostly" done by your manager allocating your share from the team budget. Promo is the only out of band process that requires writing some free form summary for yourself.
Basically, it's Russian Roulette tuned to 5-10%
