Personal GitHub projects
I am 8 YOE with 3 in Java , rest in Databases like SQL. Shall I make some GitHub projects and will they make any impact for an 8YOE ? If yes what projects are looked up to? Implmementation of something novel or display of an understanding. My work in Java is not very complex and I can see that these will not scale well. Moreover , personal projects hardly scale well

Why dont you try contributing to some popular open source projects ? Whats your objective here ?
Objective is to gain more proficiency , I would want to work open source but I don't know how that thing works. is it GitHub or do I have to contact someone?
Try finding an open source project that you are passionate about or something that you use in daily life but never got a chance to delve deeper into. Github is a good place to start. Most popular open source projects have open jira requests or bug fix requests. You can start with an easier task and go on from there
