Personality & job mismatch

8 YOE, analytics in an organization trying to be a tech company that was spun out of a major player in an absolutely archaic industry. Toronto Area TC: ~150k (CAD) I've pretty much hit the ceiling of what I can expect; I'm likely overpaid for what I do, given location and comparable salary offerings for my role. Next step for me would be senior leadership. I do not have the personality for senior leadership. I feel like I'll be perpetually stuck being that jack of all trades combining business knowledge and tech knowledge but never getting deep enough in either to step beyond where I am. Too far along the spectrum to make a real run at leadership and too shallow in tech make any real attempt to pivot into a SDE role that would pay me anything close to my TC in the Toronto area. Wondering if any of you guys had similar experiences and if you did something to stop being socially disabled or pivoted to another career path or just accepted a life of middle management and mediocrity.

what do you mean by "don't have personality for senior leadership"? curious what you think that kind of personality is (extraversion etc)

At some point advancement becomes a function of politics and likability. People want to follow people they like. Ideas don't get off the ground unless you have the political clout to rally support. If you can't lead and can't get others to buy into your proposals you're not going to be useful in a senior leadership position. I've always given off a vibe of otherness. I can tell most people feel a bit uncomfortable when talking to me. Autism or just general weirdness I don't know what it is but it's a part of my personality and it's a trait that will be an unfortunate blocker to growing into senior leadership.

maybe consider another company then - I've found companies where I felt totally out of place and then others where it felt like family. if you know you're not happy where you are then it's worth taking the jump.

what's more important might be what you want to do. You can always develop technical skills (classes, school etc) and make jump to more technical roles. Or you can start pitching yourself for higher leadership roles
