Phone interview AFTER Amazon Loop

Anyone had to do a follow up phone interview AFTER your loop at amazon? I had my loop for an L6 role on Monday and recruiter called to say the team wanted more info and that I’d need to do another call with one person next week. Seems to me that either I didn’t pass the bar raiser or someone I interviewed with didn’t like me?

Sounds like they had questions about something that wasn’t answered during the interviews.

Just wish they would have just asked me during the interviews

Did you refuse any 🍌 ?

I had this happen (but it is rare and recruiting is not a fan). In my situation (yours may differ), I had passed the loop on an LP basis, but there were questions about whether I actually wanted *this* job, since it was a departure from my previous focus (I was in energy). I gave them answers about why I found the team’s work interesting and how my previous work fit with the new work.

Thank you! I have another call with the recruiter tomorrow to prep me for the interview next week. He didn’t tell me much on they “why”. But this helps....I’m hoping it’s not about raising the bar or the LP principles. 😞

I had the same experience as ijustcant

How’s it go?

Usually when there are conflicting data points for something (code or design) , to be sure, they do put an another round to assess it again.

This generally happens when the loop is split and the bar raiser and manager can't reach a conclusion. Generally phone screen is a positive sign and basically me and you have a good chance to convert this with additional data points

Weird thing I thought the interview with the hiring manager went the best out of all of them in my loop. Just posted an update and the recruiter said I had passed the bar, so I assumed it was others I interviewed with that had differing opinions

Don't beat yourself up. It might be that one of the interviewers didn't do their job correctly, and the loop needs that information to make a decision.

This happens when either the HM or BR is not inclined but majority of the interviewers feel u have the potential and that’s when they loop u for a different team by having this phone call..

This could just be matching you up with a hiring manager, at which point you're basically in and managers try to sell you their job openings. This can happen if your loop was for a "blitz", a hiring event not specific to a particular team.

If it’s for the same role then it’s probably they had some bad interviewers who didn’t get enough data and the bar raiser and hiring manager need to ensure they have evidence of that LP or functional skill. I’ve also seen this happen I’ve you’ve been successful but recycled to another team. Due to functional fit or due to headcount being all gone and the new team would like a quick call before proceeding. But usually I would expect them to be transparent about this.

In addition to risks called out above, Could also have been a leveling issue. I am a BR and have recommended we consider someone for a higher level then they looped for. Depending on levels of the original interview you might have needed more data.
