Physical Design Engineer - Apple

Hi All, I am currently employed at AMD YOE - 5 TC - 126k. I just got promoted as MTS(L4). I am about to get an offer from Apple. How much should I ask for L4 in Bay Area?

What do you do day to day as a physical design engineer?

Apple sopq Jun 23, 2019

150-180k depending how badly they want you and how well you did in the interview. Let us know how it goes. Level will be ICT3. Bring a lot of motivation and get ready to work 60-70 hrs per week. Intel folks usually break in the first 6 months cuz they actually gotta work.

Sony DUtd58 OP Jun 23, 2019

Should I push for ICT4 or just continue at my current role ? Also what should I expect in terms of rsu, signon ?

Apple sopq Jun 23, 2019

They wont give ict4. You can see what they say. Its pretty hard to get ict4 in the asic team. Sign on is 10-15k. Rsu standard is 80-105.

What is you current location? Based on your salary, I am assuming you are in Austin. To have the same take home in Bay Area of a 126k base in Austin you should target at least 170k to be even. Assuming that you also want a salary increase for the move, you should target 180k base otherwise the move is not worth. Again, assuming you are in Austin getting 126k.

OP said TC 126k and not base. Is it after promotion to MTS or before?

Intel unlucky _ Jun 23, 2019

I had the offer of 125k base , 96k rsu + 30k sign on for 3.5 years experienced at Austin. I think you should target 210k + joining bonus

Intel wwww Jun 25, 2019

i have offer from apple after 7 YOE at Intel for non bay area site. they offered me ic3 with 150k/100k/30k ( base/rsu/bonus) so for bay area you should really go for 175k plus for base

Apple fohwb Jun 26, 2019

Lol. Good to know. Ive been here 6yrs and get 130 even after telling them im underpaid.

Intel WarenBufet Jun 26, 2019

This is very discouraging cuz my base is 160K+20% bonus and I was thinking wether I should try Apple...but doesn’t look like it will be worth it given the WLB and culture

Apple fohwb Jun 26, 2019

How many yoe tho? High performers who have been with the company 5+ yrs will pull in 250-350k.

Intel WarenBufet Jun 26, 2019

4 years at Intel, a few elsewhere. But this sounds much more encouraging...but 60-70 hrs week is too discouraging. By this standard, my pay is really like 320k base + bonus though. How many WFH u get per week?
