We have 3 kids and trying to get a 3row SUV. I am really 50/50 on both of these vehicles: Note these are all initial quotes that I got on phone. 2018 Pilot EX AWD: MSRP: $36,200 Dealership is giving me $3,200 off of MSRP This does not have Honda Sense that we wanted. But they said it can be added with around 1k extra. 8 passenger 2018 Highlander LE Plus AWD: MSRP: 38k Invoice: 35.5k As per dealership I will get $1,500 off on MSRP. All Toyota have TSS safety package which is very comprehensive included in all trim levels (no need to pay extra) 8 passenger I plan to trade in my CRV and finance the rest. Which one you will pick? And why? TC: 400+
A lot of the people I have known that have had pilots have had a lot of issues with them. Interior Water leaks, engine recalls (2x), and even spark plugs getting blown out of cylinder heads . Not sure if Honda has fixed all the issues. I’d take a good look at current owner feedback (Consumer Reports, etc)
Are you referring to the current gen? I've heard it's a huge improvement over the previous generation
Oh ok, These weren’t the current gen I don’t think. I was just giving op heads up to make sure the op did some research. The Honda reliability isn’t always uniform across their models.
Highlander is a bit too small on the third row in my opinion. I would get the pilot
Honda Pilot or Toyota Sienna are best if this is a kid taxi
Mazda CX 9
Dodge Durango. It’s basically a badged down Mercedes GL450. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2011/09/04/automobiles/dodge-durango-benefits-of-a-benz-beneath-the-skin.html
Using the same platform doesn’t mean it’s the same car.
Never claimed it’s the same car. But having driven both, along with the other two OP mentioned and a few others, I ended up buying a Durango. I know several others who did the same and for similar reasons. Read the article.
Look at Kia too. Between those 2 I would go with Toyota

If you’re getting a Honda Pilot, get the elite. It’s a bit more expensive, but the features are worth it. My brother just got the EX-L with the sense and he definitely regrets not upgrading to the elite.
TC too low. Get an uber XL.
Lol ... eventually that will be the case where you won’t buy the car. But for now it is cheaper to buy car then Uber/Lyft.
