Accepted an offer for an L5 role at Pinterest. Could I have pushed for a higher TC? Base: ~200K Stock: 1.1M Signing: 50K YOE: 7
1.1 M stock that is crazy 😱
Wowzers
Is it in SF?
Yes in SF but with the option to work in SEA (no change in TC)
Nice. What do you plan to choose?
How are the refreshers?
That’s high L6 offer everywhere else. No refreshers/bonus at Pinterest?
Thats not a “high” L6 offer anywhere else that’s legit (uber 5B, Facebook E6, google L6, Airbnb L6, Lyft T6 etc). It’s an extremely low L6 but high L5.
High fb E5 offer is 700-800k RSU. Haven’t seen anyone else offer 1M RSU.. Maybe I am out of touch. Time to start leetcoding!
Insane offer. Is this top of the band? Which team? I assuming location is SF?
I have no idea if top of band. That's kind of why I posted here. Location is in SF/SEA (choice of either).
Awesome TC for SEA.
Congratulations on that awesome offer. Any pointers for newbies to reach this stage in 7 years. How was the interview, how did you prepare for system design
I had a chance to work on a great team at Google and grew pretty quickly. Left Google for a startup and developed specific domain knowledge that helped a lot during my Pinterest interview. Also, I was tired of a low TC at a startup with no real prospects of immediate monetization (which means equity payday is at worst 0 and at best, a decade away). Beyond that, the usual suspects of LC + Grokking the System Design Interview. You could also look at interviewing.io and PRAMP but those are mostly just funnels to recruiting companies that are disguised as interview prep tools.
Your level at Google?
RSU base on current stock price?
They gave a fixed number of shares when I signed. I gave an approximate value based on somewhere between $23 - $30.
You did what? You predicted their stock’s value? Why?
How was the interview ??
Mix of coding (mostly non-LC questions), system design and other domain-specific questions (can't reveal more without risking anonymity).
Wow - non LC questions is interesting. What kind?
That’s really good for an L5. Your TC is 425+, most L5s get right below 400.
Do you mean industry-wide or just @ Pinterest? I've noticed that Pinterest offers a significantly higher equity component and a slightly higher based pay since they don't have annual cash rewards.
That's 480k+ TC no? 200 + 275 + 50/4 = ?
