Writing 'subscribe' or 'watch' has two benefits: 1 you subscribe to this post 2 you declare to others that you (with your designation and company details) are subscribed to this post. This gives a sense of the excitement around a given post and topic.
And if nobody "subscribes" or "watches," the poster might equally assume no one is interested. Additionally, such comments break the flow of the conversation, which interrupts the user. Interrupting the user is one of the worst things you can do. Both of those two possibilities carry much more negative risk than the benefits you're describing above. Perhaps the feature, then, is that the OP or anyone can view a list of people who have subscribed without commenting.
