Recently got offers from both company. Figma TC: 315k, but big chunk is stock that don’t know when can be cashed Pinterest TC: 350k Yoe: 5 Both roles are senior. Culture seems to be better at Figma, WLB seems to be better at Pinterest. Figma seems to be still at the grinding stage, but I also really enjoy the product. Now seems to be a good time to enter Figma. Stock is issued with valuations from the previous round so perhaps potentially undervalued. Can any Figma insiders speak to the value of the RSU? Appreciate any perspective. #tech #offers #companyculture #figma #pinterest
Congrats! Have heard good things about both companies. Figma probably has more upside but at the cost of liquidity - they won’t be getting acquired so you’re looking at either an IPO or a private tender offer. What about the teams you’ll be joining?
First time hearing a private tender offer (thanks for bringing it up! Haven’t worked at pre-ipo before so lack basic knowledge there). Would that be similar to a buyback event? Yes indeed the cost of liquidity is one of my concerns. Team wise both team seem great. Figma team is probably more underesourced but they plan to have me do some pretty exciting stuff, will be a stronger appearance on my portfolio for sure.
May I ask the reason for leaving DD?
It seems like any of those two companies will be a better company than Doordash; possibly by a lot
Thanks. Figma has an upside but what's your reasoning about PINS. If Tiktok gets banned then maybe. Otherwise I am finding it hard to justify PINS increasing their share. How's the WLB and culture at DD? Are you upleveling from these offers?
Is this for E5 engineering position at Pinterest?
E5, not SWE
Ah, was wondering why Pinterest was so low
I would personally choose Pinterest because the TC is higher, WLB is probably better, and you can sell your shares. What kind of role is it?
@OP, may I DM for DoorDash?
For referral? Or thinking about taking an offer from DD?
On one hand you have - Liquid RSUs - Positive/increasing stock performance (look st the charts yourself) - Higher TC - Ability to R&V - Did I mention liquid RSUs And on the other hand you have - RSUs not liquid, no path to liquidity - Valuation just cut in half after a failed acquisition - Official layoffs after the failed acquisition not yet announced - Unofficial layoffs of 4% (including eng) just done - Lower TC - Need to grind Hmm... I am not sure...
How do you know there will be official layoffs?
Thanks! Do you think there is any risk of layoff at PINS lately?
congrats! Both great companies. Can you give any pointers about the PINS interview? Have final rounds coming up with them
I will be frank, Figma is a place for people who would never use Blind. The culture is (at least on the surface) all about genuinely loving the product, the craft and the team - it's very idealistic and lots of Blind folks who consider that to be BS in a way from liquid TC and quick level-ups will be frustrated. IMO you should join Figma if you appreciate the startup MO (move fast, produce your best work, step up to new responsibilities, etc) and are ready to hold paper money for potentially 2+ years. It's an amazing place, but after the adobe acq did not go through, we saw a very vocal minority frustrated at the lack of exit.
I’ve been at Figma for less than a year and feel very overwhelmed by the demanding workload and high standards. I do like working here and want to stay, but it’s so tough. I feel like I have to work after hours every day to keep up. Do you know if anyone else is in the same boat?
Yes, especially on the internal Figma's blind there have been threads from eng who feel overwhelmed and overworked. This does not happen among my peers, but I have been here for a while, and that gives a lot of advantages gathering context and getting things done fast and "in the right way" without hassle. Unfortunately, I can't give you any more help on the anonymous public forum besides telling you to reach out to your manager or their manager.
What was the interview process like?
The recruiter will give you numbers, the valuation is solid. WLB indeed can be bad on some teams, but as you’ve correctly assessed that’s because it’s a fast moving / exciting space. I came from a company that was slower moving, and it was difficult to stay motivated. Some people are able to block that out and grind away in slow big corp, kudos to them. But it wears on me. The opposite is working in an exciting space, but you can get stressed and burned out more easily. I figure it’s a pick your poison thing in tech. Maybe there’s some in-between (I’ve had that once, but it was temporal).
Thanks for the comment! What’s the morale regarding liquidity of RSU now? To be honest, It’ll be better if there is any sort of liquidation chance soon (e.g. a buyback event). Recruiter said the liquidation timeline is uncertain (which is understandable).
