I am in my early 30s. Lately, I've been feeling quite disappointed with where I am right now in my career life. I have always been passionate about tech. I studied engg (undergrad, non-CS) from one of the top IITs, and decided to join management consulting as I was unable to find any tech job providing decent salary and career path in India while I was graduating. 7 years post graduating, and after 4 job switches, I am currently with Facebook's business integrity team, focusing on strategic initiatives. I got good exposure to the tech world at Facebook, and I was really impressed with the output of the engg and product teams here. I regret not investing time and energy in building my tech capabilities and learning to code when I had the chance back at school. I regret not having the opportunity to actually build something tangible and impactful; rather, I am managing fluffy strategy and process excellence initiatives. I want to explore if I can be a software engineer or a product manager, but I dont know where to start. I am looking for advise from fellow Facebookers or folks with similar ambitions who can help me align in the right direction. Or is it too late? If you have the passion it’s never too late to start. 30 is not too old. I suggest you enroll in a boot camp or some course that will help you learn in a structured manner.
Thanks for your advise. Any bootcamps you’d recommend?
> I have always been passionate about tech. I studied engg If this is true, you should have no problem. Hopefully you’re not doing it for the money. keep in mind, SWE salaries are slowly dropping and will not be like this in 10 years.
Money is secondary
