Hear me out, this is inspired by another poster on blind from a few weeks/months ago, by someone who was volunteering to join a hire-to-fire Amazon position WITHOUT QUITTING CURRENT ROLE, in order to get free severance money. There are several people who wouldn't mind being put on Amazon's no hire list, especially in exchange for a generous amounts of money, for no effort apart from clearing interviews. The hiring manager and the candidate would both be aware of this arrangement, leading to favourable/easy interviews with tons of hints and a push for strong hire. This would definitely benefit both current Amazon employees and hiring managers, especially those being put on Focus/pip for no reason other than ura target. The hiring manager simply needs to reach out to someone from this database - could even be an ex Amazon employee or someone who has reneged an Amazon offer - who we have seen have easier interview processes. Candidates would be allowed to list these factors on their profile. Upon selection they simply need to continue their current role, and do the bare minimum for Amazon - attend one-two stand ups a week and maybe one meeting where they don't contribute. Enough to collect a few months' paychecks, and then a sizeable severance. Current Amazon employees would be able to focus on their work without fear of pip if they know that they can refer someone from this database into their own team - they could even pull this off and get an additional referral bonus if the timing works out fine. Not sure if someone has already created something like this or if this PipFodder-as-a-service(PaaS) already exists. Any other features you'd like to see? Obvious pitfalls? I know it feels like a shitpost, but just curious to see how this could potentially pan out. Would appreciate insights from Amazon managers who have had to pull such a hire-to-fire, I'm sure you guys had a tough time and that must've been a last resort. What else would you like to see in this service? TC 180 #pip #hiretofire #ura #tech Edit: Added poll
No, I don't want to Focus on my work, thank you very much!
This is dystopian but also genius. Do it, OP
Sign me up boss 😂, it’ll fill my spare time
FYI: in order to get a hire at Amazon, the approval of the Bar Raiser is required. It's usually a senior person under a different director in the same org. It cannot be someone from the same team; it's usually someone from an adjacent team.
Even for ex employees or people who reneged their offer in the past year? Seen posts in blind about them being given offers without an interview loop. All the jokes about Amazon having to lower the bar and having to give monumental TC and still having issues in hiring aside, someone with decent prep would be able to qualify
Wait until Amazon sues all those people for signing a non-compete and working for competitors! And requires everyone to go 18 months without pay in accordance to the non-compete!
What if they're not working with direct competitors, but other unrelated industries. Any other legal issues?
Great, now we have to compete with folks on this service to get pip severance. As Amazon employees we should get first preference to get pipped!
The future is now, old man
Been in focus for 4 months now. Have been encouraging my manager to move me to pivot but without luck. Really not as easy as it seems.
Interesting idea. Might be some legal issues you want to get reviewed. Probably safer just to get Amazon employees to unionize and reject URA.
It's harder for then to unionise. Maybe this could be a feature in blind, where both candidate and HM remain anonymous until interview
