Currently, I am working as a business analyst at IBM. I want to be successful in my first year and will likely stay at IBM for at least five (5) years. What advice would you give to someone looking to maximize their time at IBM? #careerbuilder #tech #IBM
Leave after 2-3 years. Do not wait for 5 years!
5 Years is way too long
This ^^^ 5 years is long, aim to leave after 2-3 years. I have friends who told me it became hard for them to land good exist opportunities once they hit 5 years or higher. While you are working there make sure you keep your skills sharp, do leetcode…etc to have better exist opportunity when you decide to leave. As for moving up bands within ibm, make sure you know people at leadership level and work on projects that have visibility. This will help speed up your promo.
As someone who stayed at IBM for 5 years...don’t stay longer than a year or 2. It really fucks you for exit opps.

In that case I would recommend leaving IBM after 1 or 2 years rather than staying for 5.
