Sr Engineer 4 yoe; Current TC: 130K Have verbal offers. Yet to find out numbers. Etsy seller team, Microsoft Teams team
hate to say it but probably microsoft
Microsoft for sure. What is the advantage of Etsy over MSFT career or compensation wise?! Etsy has very limited scope and next Amazon, who knows how long they can survive.
Was hoping Etsy may be more agile given the size. Microsoft, my only worry is bureaucracy given the size of the organisation. But, given the size, there may be several opportunities for growth. Etsy has a pretty cool office too.
I assume you already accepted an offer? For future readers: Etsy is most likely more agile than Microsoft and is DEFINITELY way less competitive. There is less hierarchy at smaller companies, so your impact can be larger. Both companies have smart and ambitious people, but my friends at Microsoft complain a lot about backstabbing drama with their coworkers. On the bright side, Microsoft has more potential in the case that you find yourself bored. You could apply to switch to Xbox or something.
Etsy way cooler
Can someone from Teams team at Microsoft / Seller team in Etsy comment on the team - culture, calibre, growth opportunities, etc?
I do know that the Teams product sucks when compared to Slack. 😂
You should have gotten this information in your interview. You want us to write you a book report?
which team on Teams?
Etsy in Seattle?
No. Etsy in nyc.
If Etsy is in NYC that makes this choice harder... personally I hate Seattle so
I would join MSFT because making crafts for a website has a low margin rate.
Senior at Microsoft would likely get you a 50% TC increase, probably more if last year's "special" stock awards become a regular thing.
Microsoft for 2 primary reasons: 1) MS has impressively diverse business lines 2) Teams is THE place to be, because MS is incentivizing it's use aggressively.
I second Microsoft did its potential but also opportunities for advancement. I’ll add, as a former Softie, that the benefits and perks (including discounts from other vendors, including the Prime Card in Redmond and its surrounding areas) are excellent. The vesting schedule is great, too. And if you’re at HQ in Redmond, the facilities/buildings are wonderful.
