Bay Area My current compensation is 122K (at a very low COL city where u can buy a 3000 Sq ft house for 320K) I am really thinking if I should move to Bay Area? After resigning, my current company is ready to push my salary to 135K to 140k ( in a very low COL area). Should I rescind? I have school going kids. So I am also worried how they would settle at new place.
Consider quality of life. If you have a family, they’d probably be better in the low COL area

I would put money on amazon. That’s an L5 Bay Area salary for amazon, everywhere else would have paid more
Accept the FANG offer. Dude once you tell your old company you have an offer than you're out.
Once you resign, you have to leave your current job. You have already broken their trust and they know you know you're worth more. They are just buying time, you will be definitely out in few months.

Not necessarily true. If OP is in low col area they just might be that desperate.
Strongly disagree. The company now knows he's been looking elsewhere and there is no trust left. They're trying to keep him in to buy them more time for a replacement. He accepts the counter and months later gets fired. At that time, the FAANG offer is long gone. If he was this valued for the company, why didn't they take care of him before? This is a shitty move of the company.
