Hello Fellow blinders, I’m currently an Account executive with Synopsys, I have been in the role for the past 3 years. I manage some big accounts. I’m trying to figure out the next steps in my career. I’m looking for an aggressive path, I feel at Synopsys I don’t think there is much scope for growth. I’m exploring options of switching to cloud and I’m preparing some certification courses but I don’t want to start from scratch and handle small accounts. If I have to become a director or so in the next 3 years is it better to stick to the same domain. I’m looking to see if others have been on the same boat and appreciate any advise and would love to talk to some of you on the cloud sales domain and see how the comp is over there. TC: 315k (On target comp) I have been making $350-400k on average due to overachievement YOE:10 yrs Location: Texas #tech #techsales #sales #salesengineer #aws #gcp #azure #msft #google #amazon #cadence
What is your level?
69 at Synopsys. How are AM roles at Cadence ? I mean in terms of TC and growth
350-400 for 69 is great package.. I should move as AM instead of RnD or AE. RnD and AE package is around 250k at same level. What exp is required for AM?
My standard advise to anyone as R&D or field AE is to try and see if you really want to get into sales, I think you have to a passion for it and not move just for money, if you are not motivated or passionate about it, I think you won’t enjoy it but on the other hand if you are outgoing person with good soft skills and decent technical knowledge you can make good money in sales rather than being an engineer. Happy to help if you need any help transitioning into the role.
In EDA how much sales person play critical role with customers? I have seen only AEs and RnD slog in pre Eval and post sales. Customers need best performance numbers, product and support.. Does sales really play key role in closures? I
Wow you are getting 300K. My friend is earning only 150K being at 67 in core R&D opto team. They do all the real shit work to win benchmarks against cdns. Yet they receive peanuts compared to cdns.
You see only side of the story :) relationships matter the most, all customers know strength and weaknesses of each other’s tool but aligning with the key folks and understanding pain points is very important. I don’t know how other AMs work but I like to be pretty involved to understand all the technical campaigns and also me coming from AE background helps.
Can you compare AE vs AM in terms of WLB, stress, learning and growth? Asking since you have experienced both.
Stress levels are definitely higher since you are primarily responsible for the account and your performance can be measured quite easily as to how much you attain against your quota but WLB is better you don’t have to work crazy hours but i have to travel quite a bit in my role which can be a little hard if you have young family but the biggest thing is enjoying being a sales guy I think if you like interacting with people, owning responsibilities then nothing like Sales but pressure is definitely higher
no shit sherlock...i am surprised you're even meeting OTC. cadence is creaming our ass in ALL benchmarks ....apple , intel ....you name it.
Grass is seldom greener on the other side buddy esp in EDA :) are you an AM ?
