I think it's just bad timing, to be fair Tesla had the writing on the wall, so not sure why anyone would take such a risk.
Why not move back and get some other company to pay for relo? Most big corps offer it fairly leniently. Actually, probably better to pay for a lease in a LCOL place while job hunting anyways.
