Postpone Google start date
Hi Blind! I have a Google start date approaching but have been hearing a lot about Google layoffs and support check in for nooglers…. Considering postponing the start date as much as possible but I know my new manager needs people 🙃 Do you know what will happen if I ask to postpone the start date now? Will the interview results be valid for a year? (But with so many people in the market, might be hard to match another team any time soon….) Also, should I mention worrying about layoffs when I ask to postpone the start date? Thanks!! Edit: I am on h1B visa, so getting laid off is not fun… New TC: 260K #engineering #software #swe

Extending start date is not an uncommon thing but in this economy hm+recruiter would want to onboard asap and op perspective is to join later so that they can hedge against layoff but it does not work that way

Don’t fuck around or you will find out. Getting onsites rescinded left right and center. Take what you can get ASAP
definite start asap. new meta employees get their sign on, 4 months severance, and health care. the ones who were supposed to start next week get nothing and will not be starting.
Postponing doesn’t make any sense, if layoffs happen they will obviously rescind your offer letter. So take it or leave it.

Dude what in the lack of brains are you doing. Joining late won’t help you. And you’ll lose your offer real fast if you won’t decide quickly. Many are waiting in line to take it
Same boat. Joining in January might help. If layoffs are going to happen, they might happen before Q1 earnings. No matter what people say, Google is sounding super risky. Support check in for Nooglers and increased target on your back is real thing over current place where you have a tenure.

They likely won't let you postpone. Joining later does not necessarily block layoff chance. Figure out what's best for you and either join or renege.
