Potential move to ServiceNow

Most probably the Servicenow office in Santa Clara. I have read mixed reviews about the company. Specifically how is the design culture? Wondering if I should or should not make the move.

Even with Lightning?

You haven’t given enough details in your question. Are you dev, PM or test or manager? What do you mean by design culture- UI design or software design? If you are a smart developer, want to work on cool and latest stuff, or large scale problem, SN is no good. They have something called SN dev platform which is basically a legacy java, JavaScript code. For UI, it is some variant of angular JS. You will not learn anything new here. Many managers are Indians and you will see typical asian like politics. There is still no formal process for review, your review numbers have nothing to do with impact you make. Work life balance is good, stocks are reaching new highs but they no longer give the stocks in bulk.

Thanks for your inputs! User Experience Designer.

Most of the ServiceNow products suck in UI. With new CEO, there is an emphasize on the user experience but by large company has long way to go. Also they will end in building something which is very specific to ServiceNow dev platform. I don’t think moving to ServiceNow will be a great career move.

Fairly Immature culture benefiting mostly people at the top or who joined a few years ago at Director level or up. Yet the culture is managed by experienced hires ...lots of Vmware and Emc people here

Salesforce PtXU58 OP Feb 23, 2019

Can you elaborate on ‘Immature culture’?

ServiceNow oMxM66 Feb 24, 2019

Well lots of hiring across the board on all functions - not because the current staff cannot handle growth necessarily, but because someone’s MBOs and Empire needed headcount because of how the HC was agreed on. Then they at the top say we are a performance culture...happens on a growth rocket. Then the inevitable reorg in which the musical chair game...

Culture depends on the team as well. Depending on the org you will be told what time to be in office in the morning aka stand up (= morning school bell) and what time you can leave. Wfh and flexible hours is again org dependent.

Salesforce PtXU58 OP Feb 23, 2019

Which org is relatively better?

ServiceNow Boba221 Feb 24, 2019

Ux designers would be associated with one or more specific products. So You just become part of those app development scrum teams. Most often the scrum teams will be in the same org to allow for some overlap. And also, as someone else has already pointed out, your designs would get limited by the sn platform. So think about that as well.

ServiceNow is really prioritizing UX at this point. The design team in Santa Clara is strong and it is not just organized to work with scrum teams. It is focusing on how to solve real problems for the users and overhauling the experience over the next few years. What type of role are you exploring?

While the design culture is growing at ServiceNow The dev to designer ratio is still about 7:1. Watch product videos for both companies on YouTube to see what you like doing.
