I want to identify companies that will IPO in the future so that I can potentially join them. How do you identify such companies early enough? It'd be fun to go to a smaller pre-IPO company, just don't know where.

Any company that raised over 1b$ is probably heading towards IPO. Crunchbase will give you numbers. But why do you care if they're heading to IPO? Acquisition can be just as good for an employee.
Same question then, how do i identify the companies that are likely to be acquired?
