Would appreciate if f/m share their experiences with taking maternity leave. How did your managers react? Were they supportive or the opposite, did it affect your raise or promotion? Preferably not faang companies, since those guys are set with good packages, talking more about ~150 ppl workplaces.
Managers go nuts. Do not tell them. Post a quick SMS from hospital on the due date.
Get back on your trolley, you needed in another thread
Judging by your reaction you were hoping for a life hack that would not derail your career. Nope, the best you can get is not being laid off or fired. And no, that was not trolling. Report back your experience in a year.
Look up company policy. Let your manager know you have exciting personal news, that your family is expecting your first child in <month> and that when the time is right, you'd like to discuss {ma,pa}ternity leave plans.
m?
Ask for out of cycle review then after you have a good review documented let manager know of upcoming (20 weeks away) pregnancy leave.
TC?
Let your manager know after you have passed 3 months pregnant. Check your employment handbook if you have one for what the rules are. Let your manager know your thoughts on what coverage would work for while you are on leave. You have the law on your side. If you have any concerns about retaliation you can document conversations with follow up emails confirming what was discussed. Enjoy the short leave time with your baby, itβs important for them and for you. Take care.
What state are you in? This will determine what kind of benefit you can get
California
You can get 20 weeks unpaid leave prior to birth and 12 weeks unpaid leave after birth. You will still have benefits the whole time and your job is guaranteed when you come back.
Congrats!
It depends on your team. If they are bad, they'll find a way to move you out.
