Thoughts on telling your boss about being pregnant when you are still proving your worth at a new job? I'm 10 weeks now, plan to share once I hit 2nd trimester, but keep thinking of how will the news be taken? Boss is male, skip is female with no kids. Thoughts? TC 240k
1) You should not be afraid of any counter actions. There is nothing your manager or skip or anyone can do 2) You were hired for your skill sets and profile. The cost to find a replacement is much higher than worrying about maternity leave and such.
This
They can't fire you over pregnancy
Yea but they can do other things, like giving good projects to someone else. I wouldn’t say anything until you’re obviously showing.
Yeah, you have to tell at some point. Assuming your manager is a reasonable person, the earlier you tell him easier would it be for him to plan accordingly.
+1 to the who-cares-since-you-have-to-tell-them-at-some-point mentality. However 1st trimester is too early to tell anyone outside of family so +1 to waiting till the 2nd trimester. Congrats btw!
Agree with all the comments. Wait for your 12week check up and doctor feedback. Then share the news with your boss to plan your maternity replacement.
Yes, enjoy your leave, come back and kick ass.
Man I wish I was a woman
You and your family come first. There are laws to cover females in such a situation. Don’t worry and tell them once in 2nd trimester.
Congratulations! As others have said family comes first. Most managers understand this.
You’re going to have to tell them at some point! Who cares if they are male/female kids/no kids?
Come on, you know someone would have complained if it was there...
