Need guidance to start prep for consulting interview. Where do I start? Any help? Books, websites, process etc. YOE: 3 TC: $100K Education: MBA grad from a non target school Target companies: MBB, Oliver Wyman, Deloitte, PWC
DM me, I've got a bunch of resources to share
A lot of these companies have case prep materials on their site. I would also use YouTube.
Case prep - practice is key. Learn frameworks and practice live with friends. Behavioral - get your story rock solid. WHY do you want to do consulting. Why does it make sense as the next step for both you and the firm. Specific examples where you took ownership backed by data, etc
Hi. Do you recommend the book case in point to practice cases. Honestly there is a ton of material out there. Wanted to know where to start
Network, network, network. Ask other blinders who got into consulting with your similar background. Ask for referrals from your buddy’s Possibly target smaller MC firms like point B
Hi. Thanks for that. Will surely network. Just curious why target smaller mc firms like point b over others?
Honestly, you still get the right framework and client experience. I see a lot of guys from point B or a smaller firm get into tech (strategy) or product. Obv it looks better to get into the Big 4 but def keep your options open. Draw your end goal and work backwards.
Where do you stand in your mba program? Did you already graduate? Or Will you have opportunity to intern somewhere? Also what’s your background of 3 YOE? What type of consulting would you like to pursue? I would disagree with targeting smaller firms, unless you go for elite boutiques. While you may learn similar things, your personal brand and network quality may suffer. Some people may not even give you chance to prove yourself in an interview.
For case interviews, search within wall street oasis for case materials. There should be good amount out there from business schools. Quick advice on practicing: When you practice cases, write the frameworks out and speak out-loud as if you’re speaking to an interviewer. Ideally, do it with a partner, or at least record yourself. When you write things down, don’t just scribble few key points. Create a table or chart. Be ready to show the writing/drawing to the imaginary interviewer. I’m not sure how helpful case in point was for me. Victor Cheng’s material was helpful but the cases were limited to one type
I asked what you currently do because your networking plan may vary depending on the answer to the question. It’s easiest to start from where you are. Cold emailing/messaging has very low success rate and it’s hard to find someone who will support you all the way.
Did you look up on YouTube? there few good videos.
Will check it out
