Yoe 9 years. Working at AMZN as SDE2 with promo timeline arnd 18 months. Considering to look at G/F as mentioned titles. Would it be tough to convince for L5/e5 at these places? I am alright with DS/Algo and a bit of design but I am not sure to what level would G/F go? (Considering AMZN sde2design to be L4 level in these places) How should I prepare for design? Educative.io seems like scratching the surface, any other sources? If somebody would like to offer guidance in prepping, it would be of great help. Apart from F/G, anywhere else can i target in seattle area?
I know it’s not design, but check out http://levels.fyi
Thanks for the link. I know about the level comparison already but if I get an SDE3 today, does that make me eligible for l5 suddenly? I hope I dont sound rude but i meant to say does it matter to be an sde3 to be called for l5? How would they know whether I am an sde2 or 3
Unfortunately 9yoe and sde2 will raise flags at fb and possibly google. Definitely worth a try though. Fb will probably not even consider for l4 only for l5 and you will have to hit the ball out of the park to get it. I will suggest to shift to another company as a senior and trying again in a few years at fb/g
Hurts hearing to it but it is the truth, thanks for your insight.
yeah 9 YoE and SDE2 will stand out in a bad way for design: system design primer, designing data-intensive applications, grokking the system design interview, high scalability, and distributed systems for fun and profit
Thank you for the details. Really helpful
Work with your recruiter to indicate that you are looking for a L5 role only. I personally moved from Amazon SDE2 to G L5 with 10 YOE. You will need to do well at the design rounds and distributed systems.
May I dm you? I just need some quick pointers about prep and stuff.
Op, your post is all about level but what about TC? I've seen 300+ at L4.
Is it possible for L4? All the time i've seen less than 300 tc at l4. With 300+ wont it be touching L5 territory? Also to add, i am stressing on level since in all my career i've got level up through moving jobs and never through promo at company. (Most of it maybe because i ve never stayed in a place more than 2 years)
Most L4 offers are under 300. But if you interview well and have counter offer then easy 300+

May not get L5 at G, but worth trying
Thanks for info. Just curious, is it yoe thats why? Going at L4 and then again fighting the promo battle from point 0 is tiring. I restarted twice in AMZN(while transferring) and quite tired of it.
