I'm a very experienced guy (PhD, 35+ YOE, Principal SWE level) living in So Cal, looking to work in ML, AI, self-driving cars, autonomous systems, etc. The only hitch is that I want to continue to work remotely (like I have been doing since 2001). Are there any companies (Bay Area or otherwise) that are accepting of remote work for senior employees? I know Lyft is not, NVIDIA sometimes is (depends on manager) but usually isn't, not sure about Google/Waymo, Uber, Apple, etc.
Doesn’t Tesla have an office in LA?
From what I have heard, Elon Musk companies tend to hire mostly junior to mid level employees, underpay them and work them to death. No thanks.
Do you have data to back your claims? Go interview and see if you get an offer and negotiate. If you don’t want to work hard, I don’t know any company company in that space that’s going to pay your to retire.
Check github, gitlab, angel.co. they are pretty open to remote positions. I know there are more but I need covfefe

For those of us hoping to emulate your remote working experience- which companies did you work remote for? For remote you can try Automatic or Zaiper. They're fully remote
If you're okay with shorter term engineering projects and a bit of consulting-style work, the CSE team at Microsoft has a bunch of high-level IC data scientists and machine learning engineers. Most of the org is fully remote. Search for CSEFY-19 on careers.microsoft.com to get an idea of the types of positions available.
Salesforce is remote friendly - if you are interested in Einstein team.
