Hey Folks, Anyone here working at Verizon? Whats your take and what should i ask for? Got an offer for Principal network engineer in Ashburn, VA Base 150 Bonus 15k Current TC 200k # Verizon
Why would you go somewhere that’s offering 35k less than what you’re currently getting?
Try something new
I also didn't negotiate yet
I worked at Verizon for 2 years, I left couple of months ago, and I can tell you for certain, STAY FAR AWAY FROM VERIZON. It’s a cluster fuck it’s a sinking ship, everyone is leaving and whoever is left are in panic mode, everyone is stressed and I feel like people that are still working there have gave up on the company already, the pay is literally shit, why would you leave Amazon for Verizon, it doesn’t make sense to me.
Shit this is bad what was your role at Verizon ? Yea, recruiter keep telling me we cant match the salary you make at Amazon they got shitty salary
Could you explain to me more r
I was working as a back end software engineer, 80% of the work is outsourced to India, most of my coworkers are 50, 60, 70 years old I’m not even joking 😂 There’s one engineer in another team that go to the office using a cane, the company is still stuck in the 90’s, there’s always problems and issues with the testing environment/ infrastructure, there’s days that I start questioning my life choices lol, it’s bad
I forgot to add, they only started working in agile environment like 2 years ago 🤣 this company is like 20 years behind man
Hmmmmmm i agree about shitty salary i didnt negotiate yet but recruiter keep telling me about the limited pay. Age for me doesnt matter frankly speaking. Thats why they hire people to improve the environment even at amazon shit is broken . There are over 29k reviews in glassdoor and alot of i say how good work environment is and some complain about the pay, hmmmmm before i join amazon everyone warned me about how bad amazon is too.
Well it’s your call, good luck
Btw what state were u at when worked at Verizon
Texas
Amazon to VZ is not the right move. WLB is excellent in most orgs but pay is abysmal. Growth is very difficult and opportunities to learn new things are limited. Company is very far behind in tech stack and innovation but they are trying. Good place to be to take it easy with excellent benefits, but not the right place for early in your career.
I think verizon is excellent for junior network engineer given it is not automated as amazon!! Amazon is way more advanced than any other company technically and process wise

As much as I like to advocate for leaving Amazon, this is not it. This is like 5 tiers down on the engineering bar and you’ll be taking orders from some dude in a suit 5 sizes too large, that has no idea what he’s talking about.
Why you saying that? Trying something new
