Just saw the Stratford / Challenger website. It is around 23 for preK and kindergarten. 22k for K1-5. And around 25k for middle K6-8. Let me add in 10k (average) per year on top for misc expenses. After school, stationery etc. So the total cost of school will be 23* 2 + 22 * 5 + 25 * 3 + 10 * 10. == 331k. Please help correct this math. I am considering few houses in Sunnyvale which are I’m not so good school districts vs in Cumberland/cherry chase school district. So trying to do the math on the delta I should watch out for. Thanks in advance!
Can someone explain how are schools not good in these areas ? Y’all pay absurd house prices and property tax What makes the school system bad? They don’t have an equestrian team? What do you need private school for your kid until highschool?
There are many many original owners who still pay peanuts 🥜 for their taxes. Eventually the city will have more funds. Also, schools are not necessarily bad but people in the Bay Area want and can afford the most expensive(supposedly good) stuff.
Uh, yeah? Dressage isn't exactly something you learn at home.
You're overestimating misc expenses. Also the public schools in rich areas are way better than anything most people in the country can dream of. Also school is trash anyway, if you're rich you can just homeschool and your kid will end up years ahead of regular kids in terms of academics and they can still do very well in extracurriculars
Ok, Elon!
Not sure what Elon has to do with anything... Point is you're rich and have options so consider homeschooling as well.
Expenses of 10k are overboard. But will be less Why do you want to put your kids through grinding machine schools like Stratford or challenger? Those schools are similar to private schools in Asia. Do you want to put through your kids through same type of setup like you had?
My kid goes to Stratford, and I can confirm that 10k on misc expenses is way too much. If you’re doing regular pickup (instead of extended care) and are going to pack lunches, the max you’ll spend on misc (uniforms, gifts for the staff during holidays, food for the class during festivals) is maybe 1K. You’ll spend $0 on stationery; maybe $15 on earphones for the kids to record their responses for certain exercises
I don’t have time to pack lunches. I heard it’s $7 per day? Btw, what’s your tc?
How many hours are you working a day that you’re obsessed over a ten min drive and can’t pack your kid a healthy lunch?
Why private. Buy home in a good school district. Even a condo if you can’t afford SFH.
Because a shit condo/sfh will cost more than a good home in an average district and the private school expenses are still significantly lower than the school district premium?
Also, raising a kid in a condo in the us, when you can have a house with a backyard, just doesn’t make much sense.
Public school. Smart, motivated students will do great without the ridiculous cost and elitism
Why did you not include private high school in the cost calculation?
Doesn’t the research show that private school benefit is negligible. The reason the test scores are so high is because the students that attend already have smart/demanding parents
1 kid means private works out well. But 2 kids and it is generally better to buy in good school district and send to public school. West valley elementary, CMS and homestead high in sunnyvale is the best school combo. You can get a decent home around $3m. What’s your budget?
10k per year is too much. Why are you adding after school expenses wouldnt that be the same if you are going private va public
True
In private school you don’t need after school
