Hi everyone, I moved from Ukraine 2 months ago to USA with hope to start new life. I received my EAD(work permit) and now i'm trying to find work as Java Software Engineer, but for some reasons all companies ignoring me(I tried to apply for any job via LinkedIn, tried to apply for job directly via web site), maybe i'm doing something wrong. I'm developer with 4 years experience and i didn't know that here can be any troubles with finding a job. If anyone knows the right way how to do it, please share with me. I heard that process can be faster if you have a referral link, but i don't have any friend here which can help me with it. Companies which i tried to reach: Netflix, Amazon, Yahoo, Twitter, Google and some small companies. I would appreciate any info. Thanks #netflixhiring #amazonhiring #hiring #hiringproblems #yahoo #software #engineering #swe
Currently everyone is being ignored unless your role is critical. Not your fault
You are likely doing something wrong, it takes time to get familiar with the process. pay attention to local resume format, ask for referrals on linkedin and be prepared for a lot of inertia- people will start answering in a few weeks or even months. Also it’s a pretty shitty time in terms of hiring, hopefully will be better sometime next year.
Not very realistic to join FANG companies if you’re coming directly from a different country. How about lowering your standards for now and work at lower tier companies and work your way up towards switching after some experience here.
1 idea is to create a linkedin post explaining your situation. pretty sure itll gain traction. gl
Thank you for advice, i will try
I wouldn't cry a river on LinkedIn - you are not mum with 2 kids away from her husband, fighting russian nazis. There are people, weaker than you, struggling much more. Just do a reality check on your expectations, polish your CV and keep interviewing.
Just keep trying, applications might take a lot of time to process. Also, change your location on LinkedIn (if you haven't already) and wait for recruiters to contact you. Also, there are some other platforms, like hired.com which might help.
Try late stage startups, some well funded ones are still expanding their tech teams. Lots of layoffs happening for recruiters. Slow responses are expected, some applications might be neglected even, give it time.
It’s a bad time with layoffs and holidays approaching. I sent you a dm if you’re interested in my company. We’re still hiring seniors and above, last I heard. Pay is peanuts though compared to faang. Definitely post your story on LinkedIn.
Thank you, i appreciate it
Bad time for job search. Hang in there
Have you taken a second to look at the macroeconomic conditions and the massive layoffs happening in tech? If you need a LinkedIn referral happy to give it to you, but we are on hiring pause until who knows when.
I will appreciate it, i'm trying to seize any opportunity
It may be because hiring is slow from now until year end.
