Product manager salaries

I'm a product manager with 8 years experience . Working at a fintech group at a big bank. My salary is 160k base and 35% bonus. I'm new to blind and reading through these posts on salaries and feeling very under paid. Payscale however says I'm in the 90th percentile. Why such a huge disparity and where do I get reliable and realistic salary info?

Probably the same reason why news always seems extreme: because no point pointing out "normal" data points. Another reason might be because your base salary IS fairly high, but base salary is only a PART of total compensation. So although you make 160k base compensation, somebody else could make 140k base but then 100k in stock as well.

that is most likely accurate. once you get into the top percentile marks it'll get wider and wider expotentially. there are people with 20 years of experience getting paid from 200k-300k. it depends on the niche and scope of your role. are you building new products from scratch, is your product potentially going to add 10s or 100s of million to the bottom line, are you what that company call a product manager/project manager/business manager? most importantly, are you at a company that's basically printing money quarter after quarter, that has competition for workers that are paid just as well? this is the most important because same skillset that scales at hugely profitable companies means you are worth more to them, and they can afford to pay you much more than companies are only doing okay. it's like asking why Goldman pays so much more compared to your local credit union.

Please don't get me wrong but at a bank you will always be looked at as a cost center whereas at G/A/M or any of the tech companies they pay top dollar for top talent and believe it's an investment and not a cost. Second it also depends on the location you can't compare Sfo pay to Virginia or something like that. Another think is mentioned by HPV... What you see only blind is Google Amazon Microsoft guys who most often are paid top dollar.

The analogous question is are bankers/financiers paid as much at a tech company as on Wall Street?
