Product manager seeking for advice

I have seen people here give solid career advice and would like to share my struggle to get some help. Thank you for your time in advance. Context: Got hired as a Product manager but 80% what i do is writing sql and running analysis on excel. 1) Is this normal? 2)What are some actual, industry wide PM skills that I can Develop? 3) for seasoned PM, how would you find the industry/domain to get into(e.g aws or retail; external facing vs internal facing; to b or c ) ? What s the best way(low time cost) to explore Or validate my belief? My interests are in: Analyzing the feasibility of a new product or service Go to market strategy Conduct competitive research and analysis Identify and evaluate M&A proposals Manage roadmap User acquisition A/B testing Industry/domain I d like to get into Social media (fb, ig, snap, tiktok) Fashion /e-commerce Media & entertainment (Netflix, prime video) Yoe 5 Tc:140k

That sounds about right from what I see them do besides prioritize tickets and coordinate with people. Not a pm, just my observation

80% time on SQL/Excel seems pretty high. Even when we didn’t have a BI team, I used to spend 20-30% time on sql/analysis at the max to query product outputs/metrics/debugging etc. it usually depends on the product you are handling and if you have BI support or not. But nonetheless, I haven’t seen product managers spend so much time on this.

That’s odd for a PM, sounds more like Product Analyst with the title of PM

That doesn’t sound like a PM to me. Change team or move company. Your TC is low and you’re not learning the traditional and foundational skills of being a PM - GTM, x-functional execution, etc. DM if you want more advice
