He was there when neural networks were less popular. If he was looking for money then he could have left for other fancy ML methods long time ago. Top notch researchers like him are rare. With age their visions grow a lot. 75 is just a number for pioneers like him. #ai #google #microsoft #machinelearning

LOL after cashing out big and no longer needing to work, he leaves and will begin to give lectures that'll stroke his ego, leveraging his pedigree to get attention. Very cool
Misinformation was already an issue before Chat Gpt came into the picture. The greed of VCs and tech companies to cash in on generative AI will tip this into chaos and chatbots will become a commodity and part of the common good What is needed is a race that can outpace this race to identify works created by AI and regulate AI answers to limit fraud IRL. The need to control for misuse and fraud happens with the launch of any new, disruptive technology - it happened with search, it happened with fintech, it happened with social media and it will happen with chatbots. This would probably need to be spearheaded by the US or a consortium of equally concerned global leaders - most of whom unfortunately have their heads too far up their asses to be aware (or possibly even care) about this threat that the race for generative AI poses.
Wishful thinking. You think the powers that be will give dumb asses the ability to verify information? Highly doubtful, if anything I can see a snopes-like “fact checker” type ai that is designed to throw people off the scent and further muddy up the waters.
We would need a universal database (like what we have for spam likely phone calls) to be able to flag for questionable content and an ability to replicate a bot's response (we would need to be able to tag each bot's response with a unique and traceable code). Then we would need a Regulatory authority (like the FCC except better) to mandate that all companies launching chatbots to the public would need to adopt this monitoring system. We would also need a new regulatory agency to audit every company's bot that uses generative AI
I’m glad he came to this conclusion after already making a ton of $$$. What a humble guy with the right intentions.
Must have agreed with Urzs about the mission…

This reminds me of Chamath Palihapitiya, he slams Meta for being a net negative on society, but only after years of getting rich building the company that he describes.
I think you’d have to be living under a rock to not see that the AI landscape has changed in the last 8 months making his fears much more pressing
People have been raising alarms on AI and ML for much longer than the past 8 months. The technology is just now catching up to the risks people have been warning us about for years
This AI is literally shit i feel so annoyed when someone mention gpt shit will replace us. Meanwhile last time i build some modules with help of gpt and it took me 8 days to fix a bug by removing all AI generated code

Why is our country owned by Israel? I don't want my tax dollars fund genocide. How can we stop this nonsense?
Lol. Last big tech change was smartphones and we became a TikTok watching generation. I wonder if this wave will just disintegrate any semblance of real for us…
We will become an energy source for AI. The Matrix will come true.
We already are an energy source for AI. We spend so much of our own energy developing new sources of energy for data center etc. Solar hydroelectric even nuclear. So we are doing the same thing as the matrix just with extra steps, and voluntarily
