Program Manager - Google Cloud

Any insights on that job, career level and compensation? Didn't really receive any trustworthy reply from the recruiter / net. Would it be worth switching from SFDC? #Google

I have a couple friends doing it. Seems to be dependent on which team you are... From my perspective it seems to be a very fluffy job, together with the product manager role

Salesforce UUPD71 OP Nov 2, 2017

Thanks What do you mean with "fluffy"?

Not really engineering, a lot of project management and a lot of meeting to make you feel important but not a lot of things done at the end of the day Things are run by engineers anyways.

It's only fluffy in certain areas, where it's really a project management role. Lots of PgMs are doing really interesting and valuable things these days, especially in ☁️. Also, cloud isn't really driven by engineers. It's swiftly pivoting toward being much more market driven, which is a very good thing.

Hey Hi there Google cloud program manager with a business background.

Google floppybird Nov 2, 2017

Wheeeeee! 😘

Google floppybird Nov 2, 2017

Btw, nothing that doesn't have Engineer in the title is an engineering role at Google.

Google cnny Nov 2, 2017

Even some w an engineering role are not quite engineering roles

Google Cloud team is now in Sunnyvale, MP1 & MP2 buildings

Google floppybird Nov 2, 2017

This is incorrect. The cloud (including g suite and apigee) team is all of Moffett Place, and most of Tech Corners, too.

Google atqF86 Nov 2, 2017

Oki. I just saw a banner outside MP 1 & 2

It depends on level and location, but SF Bay Area, you'd make between 110k-170k, and a >15% bonus, assuming level 4 or 5 at mid career roles (usually non managerial). Stock grants are between 100-200 GSU (not sure about this range) with equity refreshes ever year as long as you don't suck. The 50% 401k match is also compelling though not often mentioned. Would it be worth switching? IMHO, its great having Google on your resume, and you can always transfer teams if you aren't comfortable with Cloud. SWEs make really good money compared to PgMs. Good luck.

Microsoft Shdkkfjf Nov 3, 2017

100-200 gsu per year or over 4?

Google dyHT16 Nov 4, 2017

Over 4

Google pdiddy50 Nov 6, 2017

You decide how "fluffy" and non-technical you want to be. As a PgM (as opposed to TPM) the expectations are low so most PgMs end up doing more Project management work.. the comp is as mentioned in dyHt...'s comment though there are definitely other variants..

What are the annual stock refreshers range?

How is the Cloud Business Finance Team at Google cloud? I got an interview call for role which is mixture of BI and Program Management. Does google consider as a TPM or PM role?
