Promotion in spotify
How difficult it is to get promoted from a backend engineer 2 to senior backend engineer in spotify? I have an offer for backend engineer 2 but was expecting a senior role offer. Was just wondering if I do decide to join, how difficulty it would be to get promoted there? And what timeline I am looking for. Any kind of commitment I can get from HM before joining? Tc - 210k Yoe -9

It’s not that difficult, the problem is that Spotify is terrible about annual salary increases/refreshers. So if you join as Eng 2 your TC will always be on the lower side even after you get promoted to Senior.
Probably at least 2 years. No tech company is good at internal promotions. Spotify is the same.
Ok..and the process wise, is it similar to amazon? Like writing a doc and getting it reviewed and approved by others?
My promo to senior was pretty painless, gather feedback and have examples of your growth and impact in some defined areas . Your manager then puts together the promo package and makes the case to the committee. Pretty easy.

Why? I don't see myself getting to sde3 at amazon before 1 and half years . And I don't like the culture here at all. I dread even day here. I am considering spotify for peace of mind and culture. How is the wlb there? Is it really good as what people say?
Yes, the wlb generally really is that good. If you're not very career oriented and just want to go chill then fine. I meant it from a career perspective. There are plenty of 5 yoe seniors at Spotify, it will be pretty frustrating working with them if that kind of thing bothers you.
Pretty chilled for me. I was in AWS too.
