Pursue startup or go SWE route

I have offers from Amazon as a returning intern and google for SWE, but I also have a startup I’ve been working on for a few weeks and really believe it has potential. Is it worth pursuing right now? I could use some advice. TC 180

How do you believe it has potential? What metrics are you looking at?

Honestly I don’t have many metrics at this point, but I have run it by several people in various industries that would benefit from it and they have said it’s a great idea, and there isn’t really a directly competing product on the market.

Small AdWords campaign plus landing site will be helpful to you at this point for getting an idea of CTR. People will always tell you an idea is useful. Actions matter more than words.

I think it is better to go to Google since WLB is better, and you can work on your idea on the side. Once you have an MVP, you can quit to pursue your startup. Also Amazon has pretty strict non competitive agreements if you are going to compete later on.

Google and keep working on the startup on the side. But really depends on what your startup is doing and next steps that you need to accomplish to move the startup forward. There are some things you have to do for a startup that are simply not possible while having a full time SWE job. I worked on my startup for 4 months while still employed at Uber, then decided to quit and have been full time on the startup for another 3 months. PM me if you wanna chat more

Google and work part time on the startup. If the startup really gets traction then quit. Google will be an amazing brand name on your resume and will open many doors.
