I was hoping to get some opinions on whether or not I should put the coding bootcamp on my resume. Long story short, graduated 6 years ago with a finance degree and CS minor. Career path was management consulting --> biz ops --> product manager. Decided I didn't like the path I was on and thought I'd try to transition to SWE, so I enrolled in a bootcamp in the Bay Area to quickly ramp back up into the CS world. It's been great so far - despite the long hours, I'm really enjoying this type of work. When it comes time to apply for jobs, do you guys think I should include the bootcamp on the resume? I'll have a few projects under my belt by then plus a lot of Leetcode. If you voted, I'd greatly appreciate any additional context TC: $0 Edit: Bootcamp is Rithm School
Hat âs the name of bootcamp? And definitely put it on
Rithm School
Do you mind sharing the name of the bootcamp?
I purposely left it off as I felt it diluted my resume when I had a ton of stuff on GitHub and online etc. This was back in 2014 when boot camps were just getting off the ground.
Does the boot camp not help with recruiting?
I've heard that having a bootcamp can be viewed negatively by recruiters and the like.
âDespite long hoursâ I gotta ask, who does that?
Can you share name of your bootcamp and the events you participate?
Boot camp and/or GPA seem the same to me when I see a resume. Good for your first job, probably something you want to remove after that, with ~2 yrs experience. I think ideally for your first job you want to have a meaningful conversation during an interview about your bootcamp experience, and make the interviewer think âwow, this person has determination / grit / works hard / is good at problem solvingâ etc. and not wonder if youâre underprepared for the role. Iâve seen successful hires from boot camps in this scenario. Was easy to advocate for a candidate that just seemed to have more determination and resourcefulness than average.
Hey OPâcan I message you to ask about your experience post-Rithm?
When I was apply to jobs I found better success with it on at the top. Almost like work experience.
