Startup history - it was on all magazines for 10 years as the best startup ever. Customers loved it. IPOd in 2021. The stock went down from $60 to $20. Sure founders made a ton of money, but how did regular employees do? Is it the problem with e-commerce space in general or was the company simply overhyped much? What happened? #ipo
I feel like this is the story with many NYC startups
Is it because NYC is not tech focused but fashion on e-commerce focused?
I feel like a lot of leadership/founders in NYC are marketing, sales, and finance people who view engineering as purely a cost center. I’ve noticed that the companies in NYC that have better longevity and long term success and growth have founders and leaders that are more product and engineering focused (ie. Datadog, Etsy, Spotify (yes I know it was started in Sweden), etc)
I love WP
I wonder why they aren't profitable. It probably costs like 5$ to manufacture and they sell for 50$+.
It's definitely sucked.. today hitting all time low of $16. We were granted RSUs @ $25 each pre IPO, last November/December they were around $45-60.. which seemed great. But then come December, we got end of year refreshers in stock (+ 3% COL increase on salary - did not meet 10% inflation). The refreshers were not in # of stocks but dollar value based on current stock price at that time - $50 (vesting over 4 years 🙄).. which has promptly plummeted, so for example - $10k refresher is worth $3200 - or $800 per year - provided you stay). Free glasses though. Suffice to say, I'm leetcoding! lol.
