What makes so many Southeast Asians have an inferiority complex towards East Asians?
Does everyone act like an asshole due to their accolades before they joined IIT? Is there a lot of socio-economic classism? Do the rich kids show off their wealth? How is the dating life? TC: 143K
Life in IIT is really fast paced. No one really shows off their accolades because most people have similar accomplishments. There are socio economic differences but most people keep their heads down on their course work so it doesn’t matter a lot. Rich kids are there but I didn’t find show off like I have heard about non-engineering colleges (for example Delhi University). Dating life sucks (IITs are not the right place if dating is really important to you).
How do you know someone went to an IIT? They will tell you. 😅
Which IIT campus is the best
IIT means you are good at math, physics, chemistry. It doesn’t mean shit for anything else. It’s overblown. Yes, I went there. And, it gives you an ego boost that you are some special breed.
Exactly. Being good at school just means that you're good at school. It doesn't mean anything more than that.
People who go to IIT stop using the word "college". They didn't go to college, they went to IIT.
There are 23 locations? Holy crap that’s alot of campuses. Indians know there is only 1 MIT right? How can they even compare the prestige?
Yeah ask sundar about prestige he is from one of the IIT
The problem with IIT’s is each group in bachelors have a class capacity of <100 students. They admit students once a year. There aren’t departments for Data science, ML, and other CS fields. There’s only one CSE department. Whereas for US universities, they admit 1000’s every 6 months in different CS related departments. That’s why IIT’s are very hard to get into as the competition is humongous
The life is just like anywhere else - all those around you are all similarly accomplished - so there's literally nothing to brag about. Even if you're rich, there's nothing to flaunt because nobody really cares - men don't care - flaunting wealth only works in front of women - who are absent in IITs Dating life - almost zero. 90% don't date their first girl until they are atleast 26. The've always been jealous of kids from other colleges who have great social life and beautiful girlfriends, because besides the ability to solve some complex problems, they have literally nothing else to show for. Most can't even crack a casual joke. Adding fuel to fire, They're branded assholes unanimously by everyone for no fault of their own - when most of them were pushed into the rat race since they were young kids. Most of them come to normalcy only after almost after a decade. That's why you see a majority of them shifting careers from core to non-core and drinking, smoking a lot, doing drugs and all - that's their only coping mechanism. It's a pitiable life - the only consolation used to be the generally higher wages compared to average - which also isn't the case anymore - as any one with 3-5yrs of good experience in industry matches or even most often exceed them.
Honestly I hate it here, people are very competitive and only talk about money and packages etc. It can be really depressing at times. Can't wait until I graduate in 23. Will leave with some good memories tho, but few and far between
I am in a relationship, and a few of my friends also have been. I would advise against dating people from your college tho. Look elsewhere
Best people from IIT never show off. You will know of them or someone else will introduce them to you. Dating life is the weak spot for them. Inexperienced men.
What is iit?
Where you could not get in.
