Hi all, I had a strange conversation with the PwC HR. I had applied for a Manager level position in the Data and Business Intelligence in Switzerland. I am now being offered a lower position of Senior Associate 2. Subsequently it leads to a much lower salary and no bonuses. I am an expired hire with over 8+ years of work ex. Offer: 108k with no bonus or sign in bonus Is that a standard practice or are they just trying to lowball me. How much flexibility do you think HR has in these cases? If I walk away from the offer if they do not change my contract, do you think that it will affect my future chances of employment with PwC. Thank you in advance for sharing your experience on this. #consulting #pwc #Big4 #offer #salary
I had a similar experience with them. I have been manager for 3+ years (12 years of total exp), PWC HR contacted me for a manager position but their manager upper band (158k) is still a lot less than my current salary. A couple days later HR called me back saying the team will consider me for senior associate level which pays even less than 158k. 😆
Respectfully decline. Does not affect your future employment chances whatsoever
I agree, but don’t straight up decline. Maybe say that you are only willing to move forward if they will consider you for the manager level role.
I basically informed the HR that the I applied for the Manager position and would like to be considered for that. When asked what is the minimum I am willing to take I mentioned 135K with the Manager level, the HR didn't seem surprised or shocked. So, that's what made me think that it might be a standard practice.
1. Respectfully declining won't affect. 2. I've known that even some existing Managers (outside PwC) are being offered Senior Associate 2&3 just bcoz of the deman and supply game after covid. 3. They are low balling you. 4. Did they give any justification for offering SA role instead of Manager?
Not any strong justification at all just that the way the team is structured a SA2 is would be the best fit for them. This to me sounded like that they might have too many managers already on their team and either cannot afford another Manager or are just trying their luck. One of my interviewers is an Assistant Manager in the team and has 4 years less work experience then me.
They did the same with me 2 years back. Trust me, I regret the decision till date. Even after having more years of exp, they would bring you in at lower level. They would also not promote you soon enough as you would get compared to the folks who (even after having less work ex) have been with the firm for whole promotion cycle year. Trust me, you would hate it even more when you see people 4 years junior to you get promoted to manager at the same time you get. They did this with me in the US and after I read about it, I got to know that it’s their standard practice.
And the comparison is so subjective too
I am sorry to hear that you had to go through this. This is exactly what my worry is also that once I get in I will get clubbed with other very junior SA's.
Promotions at PwC are the worst. Respectfully decline the offer.
