Just curious what everyone thinks (only folks who are in hardware/ software sales) and know much about career progression within sales and product management. I have a verbal offer (still waiting on numbers) and have a pretty good shot at landing a sales engineering job. Am already a sales engineer (4 years) and this other job role will be a grade bump and supporting a large customer which is a good thing over all but still a similar day to day job function just different customer and different business issues. The second option is a complete shift in career which is a product manager in one of the BU. That’s also a grade bump but not a commissions role. Obviously more work and working across timezones. My current WLB is pretty good and so will it be in the next sales role. The TC should be around $200K-220 plus minus a few but since this is an internal move am not really factoring in money. Major concern is whether I am making the right career choice? I’ve talked to a few people and if the PM role doesnt work out I think I can find my way back to the sales role if I want but I’d like not to hop around back and forth. I have been with Cisco 10 years and dont really envision leaving for more money and more stress. I see PM jobs could be demanding outside (not saying its not internally) but my ultimate goal is to get in to people leadership which I think I can organically grow in the BU and it may take some pushing in the sales role. I just feel like staying an IC is not something I want to do the rest of my life and sales role outside Cisco are 2-3X more workload not to mention learning new products and solutions specially at 40 years old or 45 etc. I do want to go up the ladder and think BU could be easier but who knows. #pm #product #productmanager #salesengineer

15 years age difference, need advice! 🙏
Same boat but I am in general dev/program director at hospital Have offers from product manager at saas company, CSM at saas, or solution architect at consulting company (all ic roles). All pay the same, know the people and just trying to find my best career path.
Do they all pay the same at what companies?
Same ballpark... CSM has incentive component and rsu's which can inflate tc. In a comfortable place so the money difference wouldn't really matter... All around $180-$200k salary.
