I know many companies allow you to purchase ETFs and stocks in their 401k plans through a BrokerageLink. E.g., Google and Lyft. Does any of the bigger companies allow option plays in a 401k? I know both Fidelity and Schwab allow options in 401k, but many 401k plans restrict the activity. #personalfinance #investments #401k #StandardizedOptions #cboe #options #wsb

You keep using that word, but I don't 401k means what you think it means.
I can at Apple in a PCRA
You can do them in your megaback door roth ira at Amazon (just roll the money and do whatever you want with it), and they took the 10% base cap out this year
Yeah, but it's too much trouble. Would rather have the whole balance remain protected in a 401k. Plus, it's a really bad idea to have losses on money you've paid taxes on, and which cannot be deducted. With Traditional 401k, you never paid any taxes on the money in the first place, so it's a better place to have a loss if you gamble too much. Gives you more leverage. I'd rather invest my Megabackdoor in index funds.
It's really not too much trouble.. it's literally 3 clicks.. Tax advantaged accounts are exactly where you want to take the most risk (whether it be pre tax or post tax) You wanna make big money but don't wanna risk anything I had an almost 90% return this year holding my money in my Roth in ETF funds that I couldn't get within Amazon's 401k, how is that 'too much work'? 😂😂
Selfdirected 401k
You mean the Solo 401k provided by your own business? Yes, that could be an option, but isn't that a lot of hassle to setup? Plus, unless you do 1099 in any given year, can't even contribute anything.
So, no long calls or puts? Only the protective and hedging ones? Plus CSEP? I think Fidelity actually doesn't include CSEP in the lowest level for some reason.
Uhh don’t think its possible anywhere Fidelity nor schwab definitely does not let me do any options trading in my 401k Government doesn’t want risky plays in retirement accounts nor do the brokerages want to deal with the overhead
False. Both Fidelity and Schwab allow it. Look closer for which levels are allowed for which account types at Schwab. You can even do spreads in a 401k. Limited margin is a thing. You can't do it in any of your 401k accounts simply because your 401k plan bylaws don't allow it. Many plans don't allow any BrokerageLink at all in the first place. This doesn't imply you can't buy stocks in any 401k.
So is your next move gonna be to a company that only pays the premium to allow their employees to “trade options” in their 401k?
