I grew up poor, parents divorced when young and being passed around abusive relatives who do not care about my well beings. Dropped out from high school, never got money to continue studying or going to college so I chose to work as general laborers and doing anything I can to earn minimum wage. I was lucky to enroll in a free bootcamp for people with low income and after much struggling, able to finally graduated and landed a job at Tata Consultancy Services, a large IT staffing company as a junior developer making 72K a year before tax. Within 3 months, I got a new offer that pay 105K! Now I live in NYC and can save 2K a month, my life is brighter than ever and I feel like living like a king. I am eligible to rent a very nice studio appartment under Section 8 housing for low income which never cost more than 30% of my net income a month, currently paying $720 a month (this will be adjusted next year when my income is higher) plus free broadband wifi, free gym. My transportation cost is less than $8 a month as a citibike subscriber for low income. My sex life is incredible as I can bring girls to my home anytime and I have enough income for dating now that I have a professional job. I just had my first vacation to Asia and omg it is so cheap and good, the best part is you can meet lots of hot girls there who treat you much better. Life is never so hopeful! I feel thanksful for having this opportunity that completely turn my life around. I feel like living a royal life!
How easy is it to get that housing? I can't think of saving 2k on 100k income in NYC otherwise. If this is really true then I feel NYC is milking it's upper middle class pretty well 😅.
you need to be patient and apply to anything you can, I was making 28K and eligible to the lowest income tier (40% of average income) which not many people are eligible for
Do you have to vacate the apt once your income increases? Any case I am happy this worked out for you!
Keep on screwing the middle class like this
It's not his fault though. It's our stupid laws and regulations like section 8.
1. You are a 3rd world dude living in the greatest country, of course you’re gunna think it’s amazing. 2. I can tell by your positive naive attitude that you have a lot of growing up to. 3. I get that you have a bad childhood but it’s really corny when you don’t stop talking about it. 4. You give off really creepy vibes so I would really ask those girls if there feeling comfortable 5. If you took too any uppers/antidepressants than go take a nap
Just be happy for the dude damn
> 3rd world dude living in the greatest country Lol how entitled. We need more appreciation of this country. The opposite should’ve been said to at least half of the population in this country who are entitled lazy and want socialism.
Congrats! Love the optimism!
With no dependents, the next time you recertify your Section 8 you might be taken off of it so be prepared for that.
Really happy for you bhai! I too wish to have something close to that in the future. Are you still at Flagstat Bank?
There are ppl who cries on 500k tc. It’s all about thinking. If tou are well organized with your expenses versus earning, you can be king anywhere irrespective of the profession.
God forbid 500K TC and cry for what? No where to spend excess cash?
Good job! Enjoy everything you’ve earned. To future-proof yourself from recession, may be worth getting a degree in your spare time. Will help career wise, but also teaches a lot of perspective that makes life more interesting. Doesn’t have to even be in CS or Statistics. My 2 cents though, keep up the good work! Glad you are traveling too! That experience is invaluable. Lastly, it’s tough getting over a crappy childhood. Took me about a decade of therapy to get over it. I use a therapist from emdria.org and see them for free through EAP at work. Before therapy, I was constantly anticipating the worst in people and always had my guard up. Now I can be calm and know I’ll be able to do the right thing if it happens.
Wow, congratulations OP! We have the exact same TC. Good look with your new position. With that being said, how are you liking NYC so far? I thought about moving there permanently but I wasn’t sure if I could afford rent or a place to afford. TC: 105K
I've always live in NYC so not sure how to compare but love it here after earning 100K+
Interesting. Could I DM you? I’d love to know more about how you can live in NYC on 105K.
Feel good story to start the weekend. Happy for you.
