My frontend interviews typically involve creating a component or writing a React hook. Backend interviews usually consist of the typical Leetcode-style questions. Today, I had a mix of the two. The interviewer asked me to find the longest palindromic substring using React. I was a bit confused, but I said I'll create a component that renders the longest palindrom in a p tag, and they told me to proceed. This forced me to solve the algo question using javascript, which was weird, but no big deal.. Then, as a follow-up, they inquired about what I use to run React. I mentioned Next.js, to which they responded that they were looking for someone with more frontend knowledge than backend. I pointed out that Next.js is indeed a frontend framework, but they changed the topic. I am writing this post because nothing made sense, and I wonder if it's me lol Have I been using Nextjs incorrectly? Is it not strange to solve leetcode on React? Sometimes interviewer are not prepared…. They also have some project deadlines to meet
I get that..but I feel like asking asking to solve leetcode on react is a level deeper than just not being prepared 🤷♂️
Yup, welcome to the new age of interviewing. Be happy you're not jobless like I am.
