What is up with Cisco - the elephant in the room

I have been working at Cisco for a bit of time, and I had time to go through the internal directory. I was wondering if there anybody who knows of any investigation on why Cisco seem very biased on hiring people from one specific country. I mean I know that in the Silicon Valley there are many individuals from one specific country, but looking at the directory is clear that about 80% of the people who work there come from one specific country. Is there something wrong at Cisco that prevent people from other races to work there? Why here haven’t been an investigation at any level neither local or federal? This seems so odd.

Which country are you from?

BCBSKS listen- Jun 12, 2023

Lol, if by that country you mean India, then Indians are everywhere in SV. Chill dude. Companies hire who they hire because they need the best talent not because they prefer hiring from one country.

Cisco jxXQ52 OP Jun 12, 2023

From your answer seems like there are smart people only in India, which is NOT the case.

Cisco jxXQ52 OP Jun 12, 2023

So you are saying that 80% of the top 1% smartest people in the world are from India? Sources?

Zoetis jack06 Jun 12, 2023

Wow , this post increased by respect for Cisco they are looking for real talent and not only hiring for sake of diversity or may be they are making up for the fact they don’t have any Indians in their executive team not even Level 2 executives, the Indian crowd starts from VP and below.

Desi ceiling

Cisco jxXQ52 OP Jun 12, 2023

You clearly have no access to internal directory. Do you know Jeetu Patel? He’s immediately under the CEO. After the level of CEO there is like more than 80% of crowd from one specific country. That’s abnormal.

Cisco jxXQ52 OP Jun 12, 2023

Wow! Chill out guys! What a reaction! I worked for other companies in the SV but nowhere I’ve found +80% of people from one specific country.

He means Desi drain. Company becomes predominantly Desi, innovation stagnates and failure cascade begins. Pretty common.

Cisco AweN54 Jun 13, 2023

There's a chicken and egg scenario here. I think there's a lot of stagnation that's already happened, so now it's boring and lame to work here so most people leave. You need folks who for some reason or the other are 'tied' to the company (visa complexity)

Perhaps good old cheaper talent

Cisco jxXQ52 OP Jun 12, 2023

I’m talking about USA based directory people.

Nepotism. I’ve been lucky enough to work at some top companies and take part in a successful IPO and I am thankful that earlier stage companies don’t have this issue. The hiring bar rarely gets diluted at smaller companies and nepotism can’t take hold. Inevitably, most tech companies go down this route…just takes a few key hires for this to take effect. Once that happens, productivity also seems to take a dip 😂 Thankfully by that time, the upside is limited and I am already on my way out.

Cisco jxXQ52 OP Jun 12, 2023

I agree on 100% of the things you said. I wonder why no investigations on this have been done yet

Oracle niij42 Jun 12, 2023

Look at thelayoffs site. This topic has already been beaten to death

Cisco sancisco Jun 12, 2023

There was a law suit for caste based discrimination in Cisco. Yes, it’s predominantly Indian company

Cisco jxXQ52 OP Jun 13, 2023

That’s a totally different issue. I believe it’s an Indian engineer who says he’s been discriminated because he doesn’t belong to the “right” cast. So it’s actually quite the opposite of what I’m saying here
