Hello, I'm having trouble deciding between internship options. I have an Apple SDE internship offer for the summer, a Macy's SDE offer for the summer, and a UKG SDE offer for the fall. I would like to do two internships. I'm for sure doing Apple, but would you recommend doing UKG or Macy's? UKG: pros are technically a tech company (hr software). Cons: Not fortune 500. Macy's: pros are Fortune 500. Cons: a dying retailer Macy's only offers summer internship, so I would have to push Apple to the fall. Is it worth the risk of doing that? Would love to hear everyone's opinion. Thanks in advance! #ukg #macys #apple #intern
I would stay away from UKG. Things are not going well. I don't know anything about Apple, but Macy's is owned by LVMH (Louis Vuitton), and there are a ton of companies under that umbrella so you would have good prospects to move around to different positions/companies. I work at UKG and my spouse works for a LVMH owned company. I have to say I've been impressed by LVMH and their commitment to their employees through COVID in the last few years. UKG is just getting worse and worse, but looks good on a resume (for now)
As someone who worked at Macy’s as a retail worker, I would probably try for Apple, if only for the fact that they have a brand name and you’ll be able to use it to get a lot farther than Macy’s. If I were to apply to Macy’s again now, they wouldn’t even consider me for an in-house office role even though I worked full time for them; conversely, Apple I think would be more lenient in bringing you back, assuming that return offers aren’t being gutted. I miss working there as a retailer, though. Cute women and the work was generally very slow on my behalf. Former TC: $11/hr Current TC: 90K
